Howard L. Pearson, 82, of Binford, ND passed away Monday, July 8, 2013 at the Aneta Parkview Health Center in Aneta, ND, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Howard Lawrence Pearson was born on December 30, 1930 near McVille, ND to Hobart and Anna (Pella) Pearson. He grew up and attended school in Binford, graduating in 1949. He worked for the Griggs County Road Dept. as a heavy equipment operator until entering the US Army in 1951, which included a 13 month tour of duty in Korea until he was honorably discharged in 1953. He married Janice Miller also of Binford on June 21, 1955 in Jessie, ND. Together they raised 2 daughters. He attended the University of North Dakota earning a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1958. He began his career with the US Army Corp of Engineers working on the second phase of construction of the Garrison Dam in Riverdale, ND. He later transferred to Lowry AFB in Denver, CO and Mt. Home, ID on the Titan Missile II construction project. His career then took them to the Minute Man Missile project at the Minot AFB and Grand Forks AFB. In 1970 he moved his family to Langdon, ND where he was employed with the construction and operation of the ABM missile system at Nekoma, ND. In 1979 they moved to Laramie, WY working for the Dept. of Energy researching energy from fossil fuels. He retired in 1990 from Western Research Institute in Laramie and the couple moved back to Binford. Summers were spent at their Red Willow Lake cabin, boating and enjoying family time, wintering the last 20 years at Lake Havasu City, AZ. Howard was a man who lived his life with humility, integrity, loyalty and kindness, always willing to give a helping hand and seeing the positive side of everything and everyone. He was well respected and made an impact on friends, former employees, and most of all his family.
Howard is survived by his wife Janice of 58 years, daughters Peggy (Jay) Dunnigan of Grand Forks, ND and Nancy (Bruce) Johnson of Bismarck, ND, granddaughter Kayla (Brandon) Domres, grandsons AJ Dunnigan, Tug and Tor Johnson, twin great grandchildren Parker and Ryker Domres, 2 sisters Catherine (Bob) Klinkhammer and Eva Sweeney, and several nieces and nephews.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents.
Howard was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Jessie where he was baptized, confirmed and married. Funeral services for Howard will be held Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 11:00am in St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Jessie, ND. Visitation will be Friday, July 12, 2013 from 5pm to 7pm with a 7pm vigil service in the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery.
