Irene Yoney

Irene N. Yoney, resident of Lakota Good Samaritan, Lakota, ND, formerly of Petersburg, ND, passed away peacefully at the age of 98, on Wednesday, April 18, 2012.

Irene was born to Lawrence and Bertina Peterson on September 23, 1913 in Michigan Township. Irene married William "Bill" Yoney on December 12, 1933 and they lived in the Michigan area for eight years and then moved to Petersburg, where Bill farmed until his death in 1979. Irene enjoyed cooking, oil painting, gardening, knitting, and quilting. She also was an excellent seamstress and upholstered for many in the Nelson County area. She was a member of Petersburg Lutheran Church and the WELCA church group, the Petersburg Curling Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Petersburg Civic Club.

Irene is survived by sons, Merle (Dorothy) Yoney of Marysville, WA, Terrance (Bonnie) Yoney of Fargo, ND, and Michael (Vicki) Yoney of Petersburg, ND; daughters, Peggy (Dwight) Johnson of Petersburg and Darlene (Marvin) Jallo of Petersburg; daughter-in-law, Judith Yoney of Grand Forks, ND; brothers, Roland (MarieAnn) Peterson, Lyle Peterson, and Lowell (Mary) Peterson; sister-in-law, Josephine Elgin; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Yoney (1979); sons, Richard Yoney and Dennis Yoney; grandson, Brian Yoney; brothers, Roy, Orville, Maynard, Manvel, and Wally Peterson; sisters, Madelyn Kleven and Marie Peterson; and sister-in-law, Betty Peterson.

She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Blessed be the memory of Irene N. Yoney.

The Funeral Service will be held at the Petersburg Lutheran Church on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Gary Knabe. The organist will be Marlys Hoverson with special music by Terry and Bonnie Yoney. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in the Petersburg Cemetery. The casketbearers will be Terry Yoney, Mike Yoney, Merle Yoney, Peggy Johnson, Dwight Johnson, and Marvin Jallo.
