Jacqueline J. Ettl, age 82, resident of Lakota, ND, died Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at the Lakota Good Samaritan Center.

Jacqueline Jean Swanke was born February 4, 1929 at Lakota, ND, the daughter of Alvin and Borghild (Bjorge) Swanke. She attended school in Lakota and graduated from Lakota High School in 1947. Jacqueline married Matthew A. Ettl on September 18, 1948 in the Lakota Lutheran Church. In 1953 they purchased a farmstead northwest of Lakota. They raised their family and farmed together all of their lives. They moved into Lakota in 1992. Matthew died January 14, 2008. Jackie was a member of the Lakota Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid, and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, tailoring clothing, sewing, all types of hand work, gardening, and working with flowers. Jackie was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and UND Fighting Sioux hockey. She was strong willed, independent, resourceful, and lived life to the fullest.

Jackie will be deeply missed by her 3 children, Sandra & her husband Dennis Fitterer of Mandan, ND, David Ettl & his wife Sara of Yakima, WA, and Alvin Ettl of Bismarck, ND; 5 grandchildren, Lance of Graham, WA, Sarah of Vancouver, WA, Dacotah of North Hollywood, CA, Matthew of Riga, Latvia, and Katelyn of Yakima, WA; 2 great-grandchildren, Stefan of Riga, Latvia, and Aubrey of Graham, WA; her sister-in-law, Audrey Swanke of Lakota; her aunt, Edna Meske of Lakota; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Matthew; 3 brothers, Harry, John, and Donovan; and a sister, Sonia Orseth.

The Memorial Service for Jacqueline will be held at the Lakota Lutheran Church on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Reuben Schnaidt. Music will be provided by Jason Flom. An Honor Guard will be accorded by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Rundell-Holicky American Legion Post # 21 of Lakota. Interment will be in the spring at the North Dakota State Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
