Jacquelyn "Jackie" Sampson, age 89, resident of Edmore, ND, died Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital in Langdon, ND.
Jacquelyn Ann Dahlen was born July 10, 1925 near Webster, ND, the daughter of Arthur and Irene (Thorsen) Dahlen. She was raised in the area and graduated from Webster High School. She then worked during WWII in the Seattle/Tacoma shipyards. She was a talented singer and proud of the fact that she sang with the U.S.O. Jackie married Melvin Hanson on November 1, 1944 at Starkweather, ND. They farmed near Garske and later moved to Highland Township near Edmore, ND. They operated a farmstead there and also managed the Edmore Memorial Rest Home. Melvin died May 17, 1976. Jackie married Abner Sampson on October 7, 1977. They made their home in Edmore where Jackie loved to spend time gardening and babysitting her grandchildren. She was a past member of St. Hans Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid, and a current member of Concordia Lutheran Church.
Jackie will be greatly missed by her husband, Abner Sampson of Edmore; 2 daughters, Carol (Lyle) Anderson of Orting, WA, and Betty (LeRoy) Howes of Edmore; 7 grandchildren, Carrie, Michael, Janelle, Rick, Becky, Sheila, and Jennifer; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Darlene Johnson of Seattle, WA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Hanson Sr.; her son, Melvin "Mickey" Hanson Jr.; a grandson, Brian Hanson; 5 sisters, Dorothy Vix, Laverne Davis, Orinne Weaver, Shirley Freije, and Joan Young; and a brother, Arthur Dahlen.
The Funeral Service will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church of Edmore on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Jodi Myrvik. Interment will be in the Edmore Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Friday, beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
