James "Jim" E. Young

James E. “Jim” Young, age 84, resident of Lakota, ND, died Friday, November 24, 2023 at the NCHS Care Center in McVille, ND.

James Elwood Young was born June 5, 1939 in Lakota, ND, the son of Russell “Rusty” and Clara (Strate) Young of Lawton, ND.  He was raised and attended school in Lawton.  Jim served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 until 1960.  He lived in California and Washington for a time.  He returned to ND in 1970 and farmed at Brocket, ND.  Jim married Patricia “Trish” Martin on November 8, 1975 in Tolna, ND.  They made their home on their farm at Brocket.  They moved to Lakota in 2011.  Jim moved to the NCHS Care Center in 2015.  He had served on the Lakota School Board and as the Clara Township Assessor.

Jim will be missed by his wife, Trish Young; 3 children, Malia (Riaz Oosman) Young of Lakota, Audra Young (Keith Olson) of Devils Lake, ND, and Jared (Kristen) Young of Brocket; a grandson, Samuel Young; a sister, Lenelle (Robert) Morris of Salem, OR; a brother, Allan (Karen) Young of St. Hilaire, MN; and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gary, who died in infancy.

The Memorial Service will be held at Lakota Lutheran Church, Lakota, ND, on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will be private at the Hoff Lutheran Cemetery, rural Brocket, ND.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
