James Hovdenes

James "Jim" Howard Hovdenes, 83, of Tolna, ND, died Sunday, February 17, 2013.

James Hovdenes was born July 16, 1929 to Oliver and Emma (Tufto) Hovdenes in McVille, ND. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school in Freeborn and Colvin Townships. James was baptized and confirmed at Sigdal Lutheran Church, rural Tolna, ND. James married Viola Lucht on June 6, 1954 in Braham, MN. He lived and farmed his entire life in Freeborn Twp. James was a rural mail carrier for 27 years. He was a member of the Tolna Rural Fire Dept and the Tolna Community Club. He drove school bus and gravel truck. James loved to farm.

James is survived by his wife, Viola (Lucht) Hovdenes; son, Kip (Michelle) Hovdenes; daughter, Kendy (Clayton) Quam; grandchildren, Cody & Rheanna Quam, Colby, Kasey & Cooper Hovdenes; Brother, Vernon (Idell) Hovdenes; Sister, Vernice (Bill) Eskildsen; sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Carrol & Vern Strandlund; and several nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Elmer & Alma Lucht.

Funeral Services for James will be Friday, February 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Sigdal Lutheran Church, rural Tolna, ND. Visitation will be Thursday, February 21, 2013 from 6 to 8pm in Sigdal Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Sigdal Lutheran Church Cemetery.
