James A. Ivesdal, 96, Edmore, ND, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Home, Osnabrock, ND.


James was born on October 28, 1915, on his parent's farm in Prospect Township near Edmore, North Dakota, to Lars and Martha (Haug) Ivesdal. He attended public school in Edmore and Prospect. He started farming with his father at an early age and took over the farm at the age of 25 following his father's death.


On June 18, 1942 , James married Norma Rice. They made their home on the family farm and farmed until 1980. He continued helping their sons, Jeff and Paul, farm until entering the Good Samaritan Home, Osnabrock, in 2006. James and Norma enjoyed many winter vacations in California visiting his sisters and their families.


James was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church along with many organizations including Derrick Farmers Elevator, Farmers Shipping & Supply in Edmore, Prospect Township board, Farmers Union, and a founding member of Lake Region Credit Union.


James is survived by his wife of 69 years, Norma; daughters, Linda (John) Adsem and Camilla (Larry) Ohma; sons, Jeff and Paul (Renee) Ivesdal; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Nina Berggren of Langdon, ND, and many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Karen; great granddaughter, Tessa Hermanson; brother Tollef (Myrtle); and sisters Alice (Venious) Limke, Athalia (Reuben) Hammer, Juilet (Henry) Hellekson, Ida (George) Johnson, Myrtle Haggard, Evelyn (Melvin) Lee, and brother-in-law, Arvid Berggren.


Visitation will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church , Edmore, on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, from 3-5 p.m. with family service to follow.


Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at Concordia Lutheran Church. Burial: Prospect Cemetery, rural Edmore.
