Joseph Richard Trappen 73, Upland CA passed away Saturday, March 28, 2026, at his home.

He was born June 8, 1952 to Richard and Muriel (Loop) Trappen in Breckenridge, MN. He graduated from Lakota High School, Lakota, ND in 1971.

Joseph was a member of the International Electrical Workers Union for 50 Years. His work career included working in North Dakota, Minnesota, Wyoming, Oklahoma and most recently for Henkels & McCoy in California.

Joseph is survived by his sons: Jeremiah Broughton, Chicago IL and Mark Matejcek, Scottsdale, AZ. His siblings: Peggy (Roger) Peters, Devils Lake ND; Michael (Kari) Trappen, Beulah, ND; Pat (Vicki) Trappen, Wahpeton, ND; Jon (Dawn) Trappen, Ramsey, MN; Annette (Todd) Handeland, Dayton, MN; Tony Trappen, Fargo, ND; Nieces and Nephews: Melissa Peters, Troy (Kortney) Peters, Paulette Peters, Wendy (Andy) Gendreau, Travis Trappen, Jessica (Carl) Springer, Richard P. (Ashley) Trappen, Sam (Aerika) Trappen, Ben (Cassie) Trappen, Zach Trappen, Lindsey (Michael) Peterson, Heather Biwer, Corbin (Seniada) Handeland, Emma (Ben) Morrison, Ian Handeland, Kyler Handeland and Uncle: Bruce Wallace, Bloomington, MN.

He is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Muriel Trappen; Nephew David Peters, his Grandparents, Harley and Margaret Loop and Jake and Rose Trappen and numerous Aunts and Uncles.

Funeral services and burial will be held at a later date in Lakota ND.
