Josephine Elgin

Josephine "Jo" Elgin, age 93, resident of Lakota, ND, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota.

Josephine Ella Yoney was born March 25, 1919 in Michigan, ND, the daughter of John and Mary (Schuh) Yoney. She was raised and attended school in Michigan. Jo married Alvin Elgin on August 18, 1936. They lived in Michigan until 1943, at which time they purchased their farm at Stump Lake. They worked together on the farm until retiring in 1989 and moved into Lakota. Alvin died August 17, 1992. Jo loved working outside, especially with her garden and flowers. She moved to the Good Samaritan Center in February of 2008.

Jo will be deeply missed by her 3 daughters, Kathleen Hanson of West Fargo, ND, Lavanna (Edward) Ferguson of Fargo, ND, and Pamela Anderson of Lakota; her son, Berthal (Joyce) Elgin of Lakota; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Milo (Carrol) Elgin of Devils Lake, ND; a sister-in-law, Georgia Elgin of Lakota; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; son, Marvin; great great granddaughter, Madison; 5 sisters, Julie Omlid, Mary "Babe" Brotten, Margaret "Toots" Severson, Helen Ford, and Anna Kroeplin; and 2 brothers, Bill and George.

The Funeral Service will be held at Lakota Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Peter Horn. Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery. The casketbearers will be Kevin Mork, Delmere McLean, Randall McLean, Michael Elgin, Rick Elgin, and Joel Anderson. The honorary casketbearers will be include all of Jo's grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Friday, beginning at 2:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
