Julie Ann "Merna" VenHuizen, age 49, resident of Linton, ND passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the Linton Hospital.

Julie was born April 11, 1967 in Cooperstown, ND the daughter of Kent and Janet (Vangen) VenHuizen. She grew up and attended school in Cooperstown, graduating Cooperstown High School. Julie attended Valley City State Teachers College. She worked at the Valley Care Center in Valley City and Posi Lock Puller in Cooperstown. She spent 15 years working at the state capitol in Bismarck. She was part of the alcohol & beverage division before becoming a secretary to the House of Representatives.

Julie enjoyed cooking and watching all of the cooking channels. She was a "thrifter"; one of the first stops in any town was the thrift store. Throughout the years she took in several homeless animals. Her current dog Zoose was twice her size and she loved him even though he would occasionally knock her over. Spending time with family was very important to Julie, especially the grandchildren.

Julie will be missed and remembered by her son Brady (Brittany) VenHuizen of Jamestown, ND, grandchildren Layton, Aeralynn, Grayson and Brandton, her fiancAC.e Shahn Fletcher of Linton, step-son Tim Erickson of Cooperstown, brothers Kelly (Pamela) VenHuizen of Cooperstown and Kevin (Sally Jo) VenHuizen of Fargo, ND, along with several nieces and nephews.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and one infant son.

Funeral services for Julie will be held Friday, September 30, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and continue one hour prior to services in the Chapel.
