June B. Martinson

June Martinson, age 81, resident of Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Edmore, ND, died Thursday, May 21, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.

June (Nelson) Martinson was born June 5, 1933 in Illinois Township, Nelson County, ND. She is the sixth child of John M. Nelson and Besse (Bjorge) Nelson. She attended school at Illinois Township #2, Doyon, and Mayville Teachers College. June met her husband, Roger Martinson, of Derrick, the summer of 1950 when he was employed by her uncle, Albert Bjorge, of rural Lakota. They were married in Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Doyon on January 31, 1954. June was teaching in Grand Forks the winter they were married. In the spring they moved to the farm near Derrick where they were engaged in farming. June taught school in Hampden the next four years. She also substitute taught at the Edmore School for a number of years. They spent ten winters in California during the 1960's, leaving home after falls work and returning for springs work. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church of Edmore and active in the church and community as a whole.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Besse; siblings, Norman, Betty Clarine, Alice, Marlyn, and Margaret.

She is survived by her husband, Roger, of 61 years, of Devils Lake, ND; children, John (Diane) Martinson of Edmore, ND, and Brenda Hoefs (Heath Rosenau) of Grand Forks, ND; 5 grandchildren, Benjamin Hoefs, Eryn Hoefs (fiancAC. Ian Leier), Simon Hoefs, all of Grand Forks ND, Kaden and Miranda Martinson of Edmore ND; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The Funeral Service for June will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church of Edmore on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Edmore Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Monday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
