June I. Sundre, age 86, resident of Grand Forks, ND, formerly of Petersburg, ND, died Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Woodside Village in Grand Forks.
June Ilene Severson was born October 2, 1928 in Adler Township of Nelson County, near Petersburg, ND, the daughter of Einar and Kari (Rusten) Severson. She was baptized at Lom Lutheran Church and was confirmed at Petersburg Lutheran Church. June graduated from Petersburg High School, then continued her education at Mayville State Teachers College. After receiving her teaching certificate, she taught at 5 rural schools in the Petersburg area. June married Ellsworth J. Sundre on June 26, 1955. They raised their family and made their home in Petersburg. June began working part time as a Postal Clerk, eventually becoming Postmaster, a position she held for many years. She was a member of the Petersburg Lutheran Church and WELCA. She also served for many years as the organist and choir director. June had also been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of the John Larson Post #247, and the Petersburg Civic Club. She loved to spend her time canning produce, embroidery, and quilting. Most recently, June and Ellsworth resided in Grand Forks. Ellsworth died March 29, 2015.
June will be deeply missed by her 4 children, Kathleen (Richard) McWaters of Grand Forks, Karyn (Evan) Schoenfish of Bettendorf, IA, Barbara (Byron) Verbitsky of Poynette, WI, and Kevin (Lynae) Sundre of Petersburg; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Clara Frederikson of Grand Forks; brother, Norman Severson of Petersburg; brother-in-law, Gerald Morkrid of Thief River Falls, MN; sister-in-law, Vivian Hamre of Lisbon, ND; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ellsworth; 3 brothers, Leonard, Paul, and Vernon; and a sister, Ann Morkrid.
The Funeral Service for June will be held at the Petersburg Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Val Teppo. Interment will be in the Petersburg Cemetery. Serving as casketbearers will be June’s grandchildren: Marissa Nadolski, Andrea Conlan, Krista Tangen, Sara Schoenfish, Matthew McWaters, Annie Borah, Ashley Sundre, and Zac Sundre. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.
