Karen Lea Johnson, 69, went home to her Lord on February 18, 2014 at her home with her family surrounding her. Karen fought a courageous battle with cancer.
Karen Lea, daughter of Harold and Frances Johnson was born at the Wallum Hospital in Lakota on November 19, 1944. She was baptized at the Lakota Lutheran Church.
Karen moved to Grand Forks and lived in the home of her caregiver, Marlys Greendahl. Karen worked in the food service department of UND while in Grand Forks. She eventually moved to Fargo with Marlys and was employed at NDSU in the food service department. She moved back to Lakota in the fall of 2013.
Karen was adored by all of her family and friends. She was very crafty and enjoyed embroidering. She embroidered many dish towels, pillow cases, and wall hangings for family and friends. She mastered the art of embroidery in that it was difficult to tell the front from the back. Karen also enjoyed going to the lake, playing cards and marbles, and search a word. Most of all she loved being with her family and participating in family activities.
Karen will be deeply missed by her 2 sisters, Bev (Harold) Eidsness of Lakota and Barbara Greene of Webb, Iowa; her 2 brothers, Harlan (Jan) Johnson of Alexandria, Minnesota and Robert (Karen) Johnson of Portland, Maine. She is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews; 26 great nieces and nephews; 35 great-great nieces and nephews, as well as several cousins. Karen is also survived by Marlys Greendahl, her house mother of many years.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Frances (Lloyd) Johnson; and brother-in-law, Jim Greene.
The Funeral Service for Karen will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, ND on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Russell Pollock. Burial will be at the Lakota Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
