Karen Sundeen, age 73, resident of Phoenix, AZ, formerly of Lakota, ND, died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at John C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix .

Karen Kleven was born March 25, 1940 at Lakota, the daughter of Elmer and Madelyn (Peterson) Kleven. She was raised and educated there, attending the Lakota Public School. She worked at the American Legion Club in Lakota for many years and also worked at the Gronna Home in Lakota. Karen married Roger Sundeen on February 20, 1982. They moved to Phoenix, AZ in November of 1997 and made their home there. Karen worked at the Cracker Barrel restaurant and also worked demonstrations at Wal-Mart. In recent years she developed an interest in jewelry making. She made several items and had quite a talent with this artistic expression.

Karen is survived by her husband, Roger Sundeen of Phoenix, AZ; 3 children, Jody (Loren) Borgerson of Bottineau, ND, Terry (Elaine) Ellis of Salem, VA, and Michelle (Kevin) Kartes of Minneapolis, MN; 6 grandchildren, Shane Fisk, Travis Ellis, Taylor Ellis, Brandon Ellis, Christopher Kartes, and Mitchell Kartes; 3 great-grandchildren, Sydni & Kaylee Fisk and Damon Ellis; 2 sisters, Pat (Neil) Anderson and Cheryl (Raymond) Miller, both of Lakota, ND; her sister-in-law, Shirley Kleven of Lakota, ND; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Kim Ellis; and her brother, Allen Kleven.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Sue Mackey. Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery.
