Kay Moon

Kay Elayne Jensen Moon was born Aug. 22, 1946 in Bismarck, ND to Raymond and Irene (Beckman) Jensen; she died Jan. 12, 2015 at Elim Care Center in Fargo, ND.

Kay grew up near Hannover, ND, attended Oliver County one-room country schools and graduated from Center High School in 1964. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church (Center) and served as organist. Kay attended Concordia College (Moorhead), graduating from the University of North Dakota (Grand Forks) with BS and MS degrees in speech pathology.

Kay married Darrell Moon, on Sept. 4, 1966. They lived in Waynesville, MO while Darrell was stationed with the US Army. Kay was employed by Waynesville Public School as a speech therapist. In 1971 they moved to McVille, ND. In 1981 Kay became certified in elementary and early childhood education. She taught at McVille Public School and worked at the McVille Medical Clinic. She was also a proud stay-at-home mom and housewife. Darrell and Kay became part owners of McVille State Bank from 1992 to 2007. Kay served as organist at McVille Lutheran Church for 30+ years and had a special love of hymns. She was active in choir, handchimes and LCW.

Kay had many hobbies including sewing, quilting, card-making, scrapbooking, photography, and writing. She loved the North Dakota prairie and her family heritage. She actively pursued these hobbies even after being diagnosed with a brain tumor on Jan. 1, 2009.

Surviving members of her family include husband, Darrell (Fargo); daughters, Rev. Tessa (Jon) Moon Leiseth (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa); Sara (Terry) Waltz (Fargo) and grandchildren, Isaac and Sophia Leiseth and Brianna, Trey and Jensen Waltz. Other family members include 5 aunts, 3 uncles, many cousins and her sisters and brothers-in-law.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, her father and mother-in-law, 8 aunts and 10 uncles.

Memorials are preferred to CaringBridge or Roger Maris Cancer Center.

Visitation: Monday, Jan 19, 2015 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.

Funeral: Tuesday at 2 PM at First Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND with visitation one hour prior.

Burial: Wednesday at 1 PM CST at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Center, ND.
