Kermit O. Sherve, age 85, resident of Lakota, ND, died Sunday, April 8, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake, ND.

Kermit O'Neil Sherve was born August 23, 1926 at McVille, ND, the son of Ole and Cora (Johnson) Sherve. He attended country school south of McVille and graduated from McVille High School in 1944. He worked on the family farm before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force on August 8, 1950. He was stationed in several southern states and the Philippine Islands until his discharge on December 1, 1953. Kermit worked road construction for many years until his retirement. He married Joyce Hietala Kalliokoski on April 25, 1998 at Brocket, ND. Kermit loved the outdoors, gardening, carpentry, fishing trips, and spending time with family. He is a member of Lakota Lutheran Church, a 59 year member of the American Legion at Lakota, a member of the VFW at Devils Lake, and a lifetime member of the Elks Club at Devils Lake.

Kermit is survived by his wife, Joyce Sherve of Lakota; 4 step-sons, Ronald (Marsha) Kalliokoski of Gardena, ND, Steve (Sylvia) Kalliokoski of Dickinson, ND, Larry (Eve) Kalliokoski of Phoenix, AZ, and Bruce (Patti) Kalliokoski of Thompson, ND; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ione Johnson of Buffalo, ND and Irene (Don) Bakke of Bloomington, MN; 2 brothers, Frayne Sherve of Lake Park, MN and Ronald (Erma) Sherve of Atkinson, NE; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Sylvan and Clyde; infant twin siblings, David and Laura; brother-in-law, Howard Johnson; and step-son, Michael Kalliokoski.

The Funeral Service will be held at Lakota Lutheran Church on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Becky Horn. The organist will be Karen Fowler and the soloist will be Sally Simonson. Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery . The casketbearers will be Kermit's nephews. Military Honors will be accorded by the Rundell-Holicky American Legion Post #21 of Lakota. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Thursday, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
