Lavon Gail (Lee) Dardis passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, on what would have been her and Neil’s 65th wedding anniversary—a date that now marks not only a beautiful milestone but also a reunion with her beloved husband, whom she had deeply missed over the past three months.
Lavon was born on July 28, 1942, in Marion, North Dakota, to Leonard and Edith (Liedall) Lee. A lifelong hard worker with a sharp wit and vibrant sense of humor, Lavon made lasting impressions wherever she went. Over the years, she wore many hats—serving her community as an ambulance driver and a school bus driver. Using the “Lee Family” driving style came in handy many times in these roles. Lavon was also the proud co-owner of a hardware store. Always willing to open after hours to help the community members.
She loved gathering with her “coffee ladies,” where laughter and stories flowed freely. Lavon was also a talented bowler and a pretty good golfer—earning a few tournament wins at Rock Creek over the years. In quieter moments, she expressed her creativity through painting and crafts, and a few of her paintings will be on display at her service as a tribute to her passion and talent.
Lavon cherished time with family and friends. She was a devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Along with Neil, she patiently raised their five children and lovingly maintained their beautiful home. Her generous heart went way overboard at Christmas and Birthdays. Her face would light up whenever her Grands and Great Grands came around. She especially looked forward to spending winters in Palm Desert, soaking in the warm sunshine with Neil by her side. Those seasons were made even more special with her two sisters and their husbands nearby—sharing meals, playing cards, and hitting the golf course together.
Lavon was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Neil; her brother James Lee; sister-in-law, Frieda Lee; and brother-in-law, Lester Larson.
She is survived by her 5 children, Micheal (Beth) Dardis, Mitch (Brooke) Dardis, Mark (Cindy) Dardis, Tracey (Wayne) Riechling, and Shawn Dardis; her two sisters, Jane (Jim) Kanwischer and Sharon Larson. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends who will miss her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakota Ambulance, Lakota City Library and/or Lakota Cemetery.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but we take comfort in knowing she is once again with Neil, sharing coffee on the porch swing, laughter, and maybe a round of golf in the sunshine.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church (410 Main St. Lakota, ND 58344). Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:30-11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at The Lakota Cemetery.
