Leander G. Anton, age 92, resident of Geneseo , IL , formerly Cooperstown , ND passed away Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy , IL .
Leander was born July 3, 1917 in Fairfax , MN the son of Frank and Amelia (Klinger) Anton. He moved at a young age with his family to Van Hook , ND where he was educated. Leander entered the United States Army on October 29, 1940 and was honorably discharged on October 19, 1945 . He married Lorraine Suess on April 16, 1951 in Sykeston , ND . After their marriage the couple made their home in Cooperstown . Leander was employed at Hildre Implement in Cooperstown from 1956-1979. Lorraine passed away November 6, 2005 .
Leander is survived by his daughters and son-in-laws, Berniece (Stephen) Froiland of Cooperstown, ND and Karen (Garry) Reagin of Geneseo, IL; 7 grandchildren, Melinda Jo (Michael) Moran, Blair Froiland, Kari (Aaron) Surratt, Bryan Froiland, Kristen Reagin, Kayla Reagin, and Emilee Froiland; 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Speldrich of Sykeston, ND and Magdaline Giesen of Makoti, ND; brother, Wilfred Anton of West Fargo, ND and a daughter-in-law, Linda Anton of Rockwall, TX.
Leander was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lorraine , son Francis, 6 sisters and 10 brothers.
Funeral services for Leander will be Monday, October 12, 2009 at 2:00 PM in St. George Catholic Church in Cooperstown . Visitation will be Monday, October 12, 2009 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery in Jessie , ND . Military honors by the Gordon Lindren Post #143 of Cooperstown , ND . Memorials can be made to St. George Catholic Church in Cooperstown . Arrangements with the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel.
