Obituary

Leonard Duane Aamot, 93, Lakota, ND, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2026.

Leonard was born on December 15, 1932 to Alf and Ella (Akset) Aamot at Union, ND. He grew up and attended school in Osnabrock, ND. After graduating from Osnabrock High School, Leonard joined the US Navy. On May 1, 1955 he married Avis Sateren. Over the years Leonard worked as a cattle inseminator, delivered propane for Behm’s Propane, and was a custodian at Lake Region College. After retiring Leonard kept busy doing lawn care in the community. Leonard especially loved dancing and polka music; He and Avis attended many dances and polkafests through the years. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with family.

Leonard is survived by 5 sons, Daryl, Bayfield, CO, Keith (Maxine Lammers), Wahpeton, ND, Kent, Grand Forks, ND, Kevin (Connie), Breckenridge, MN, and Curtis (Kathy) Crookston, MN; 6 grandchildren, Jeff (Brianna) Aamot, Shelby Aamot, Sara Aamot, Tyler Erdmann, Chris (Amy) Erdmann, and Nick Erdmann; 6 great-grandchildren, Rush, Chesney, Oaklyn, Ryder, Brynlee and Hailey; and 3 nephews, Randy, Gary and Duane McMillin.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Avis; parents; son, Larry; and sister, Eleanor (Ray) McMillin.

Services for Leonard will be held at Lakota Lutheran Church on Monday, May 18, 2026. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. followed by a luncheon; the funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by burial at Center Lutheran Cemetery, rural McVille, ND.
