LeRoy A. Anderson, age 94, resident of Binford, ND, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the Griggs County Care Center in Cooperstown, ND.

Lee was born on October 26, 1922 in Northwood, ND, the son of Andrew and Fannie (Anderson) Anderson. Lee graduated Valedictorian from Tolna High School and enrolled in Hanson Auto, Diesel and Welding school in Fargo. He was accepted at Lockheed Aerospace in Los Angeles, CA. Following that, he entered the United States Air Force and was stationed in San Antonio, TX where he taught instrument flying.

Lee married Gladys D. Hanson on June 22, 1946 in Ulen, MN. They lived in Binford where he worked for the county road department until he became Postmaster, retiring after 38 years. He also served as Mayor for 36 years and remained active in community development, American Legion and the Trinity Cemetery Board.

In his spare time, he sold cars for area dealerships, operated Anderson Repair for small engines, farmed and had cattle near Mose, ND. After retiring, Lee and Gladys spent winters in Mesa, AZ, where his hobby was working with stained glass. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed driving his “Dale Earnhardt #8 Budweiser” Monte Carlo in area parades. He also enjoyed his daily afternoon coffee visits with friends in the Binford CafAC..

Lee is survived by his son, Michael (Brenda) of Bismarck, ND; his daughters, Adele Harrington of Jamestown, ND, Neva (Mark) Walsh of Williston, ND, and Carol (Douglas) Rickford of Binford, ND; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 sisters, 2 great grandchildren, and a son-in-law.

The Funeral Service for Lee will be held Monday, August 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church of Binford, ND. Visitation will be Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel and continue one hour prior to services in the church. Interment will be in the Binford Cemetery. Military honors provided by the North Dakota Military Honors Team.
