Lillian May Paulson

Lillian May Paulson, age 96, resident of McVille , ND passed away Friday, October 18, 2013 at the Nelson County Health System - Care Center in McVille.

Lillian was born May 10, 1917 on the family farm to Guy O. and Maria (Lundsten) Trostad. She grew up and attended the Olson country school in Griggs County, graduating from Cooperstown High School in 1936. Lillian worked at the hotel and café in McVille where she met her future husband Walter. On April 13, 1940 she married Walter Paulson at the Tufteland parsonage. The couple lived near the family farm before moving to Sharon, ND, Aneta, ND and settling in Kloten, ND. Lillian was the postmaster in Kloten for 20 years, retiring in 1985. In 1997 she moved into McVille. She moved into the Care Center in 2007.

Lillian loved music. She would sing, yodel and play the piano or accordion. Some of her other hobbies included card & board games, bingo, quilting, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, gardening and baking lefse, donuts and cookies. She was a 4-H leader, a Sunday school teacher, and was a member of the Thimble Club, Homemakers Club, and Ladies Aid. She learned to bowl and joined a bowling league in her '70s. She enjoyed going on trips with friends. Lillian was young at heart and some of her happiest times were playing games with her children and grandchildren. She was a model of kindness, fairness, gentleness, and patience, and offered loving encouragement to her family. Her faith in God's goodness never wavered.

Lillian will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her children; Wanda (Dick) Thompson of Ashkum, IL, Ione Dusek of Bloomington, MN, Verna (Robert) Lindvall of McVille, ND, Sue Richardson of West Fargo, ND and Jayme (Kim) Krsnak of Fargo, ND; 22 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren; sister Ruth (Bert) Dibley of Monticello , MN; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Guy, 5 brothers, Oswald, Gerhard, Roy, Leonard and Allen; 2 sisters Myrtle Olson and Gerda Trostad.

Funeral services for Lillian will be held Friday, October 25, 2013 at 1:30 PM in the McVille Lutheran Church, McVille, ND. Visitation will be Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 4PM to 7PM with a 7PM family service in the Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to services in the church. Interment will be in the Valley Grove Cemetery, Kloten, ND.
