Lloyd O. Lybeck, age 88, resident of McVille, ND, formerly of Petersburg, ND, died Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Nelson County Health System Care Center in McVille.
Lloyd Oscar Lybeck was born March 18, 1928 in Herman, MN, the son of Oscar and Selma (Carlson) Lybeck. He was raised in Petersburg and attended school there, graduating from Petersburg High School. Lloyd then enlisted in the U.S. Army. Upon his discharge from the Army, he returned home to help on the family farmstead. Lloyd married Pearl Bratland on February 18, 1977 in Petersburg. They lived on the family farm until 1985 when they moved into town. He worked at the Grand Forks Air Force Base Commissary for a few years after moving into town. Lloyd continued working for a local farmer as well as drive school bus and serve as janitor for the Petersburg Lutheran Church, where he had been a lifelong member. He was also a member for over 50 years of the John Larson American Legion Post #247 and Voiture #101 of the 40 and 8 veteran organization of Grand Forks. Lloyd and Pearl were excited and proud at the birth of their grandson, Christian, in 2006. The couple moved to Grand Forks in 2007. He moved to the care center at McVille in September of 2013. Pearl passed away on February 28, 2014. Lloyd always enjoyed reading, going for walks, and visiting with friends and family.
Lloyd will be missed by his son, Darrin Lybeck & his wife Michelle of Arvilla, ND; his grandson, Christian Lybeck; a sister, Marion Johnson of Minot, ND; 2 nieces and 4 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a granddaughter, Faith; and a sister, Darlyne Selmanson.
Lloyd’s Funeral Service will be held at the Petersburg Lutheran Church, Petersburg, ND, on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Val Teppo. The organist will be Marlys Hoverson and the soloist will be Terry Ellingson. Interment will be in the spring at the Petersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service.
