LouVerne "Betty" Beatty, age 87, resident of Grand Forks, ND, formerly of Lakota, ND, died Monday, March 5, 2012 at Woodside Village in Grand Forks.

Betty LouVerne Beatty was born April 12, 1924 at Lakota, ND, the daughter of James Cecil and Jessie (Langton) Beatty. She graduated from Lakota High School in 1942 and spent most of her life in the area. She attended the University of North Dakota , was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority and earned her Bachelor Degree in Education. After graduation, Betty moved to California to be near her sister. She taught elementary school for a few years there before returning to the Lakota area. She also lived and taught school in the Minot area as well. Betty worked at the library every Tuesday and helped with quilting at her church on Fridays. She took several Senior Citizen trips, including trips to Florida , the east coast, Washington, and the Black Hills . She also traveled to Chicago every year to see her sister. Betty enjoyed listening to music, and the Christmas season with all of the beautiful decorations. She moved to Woodside Village in May of 2005.

She is survived by 2 brothers, Bill (Patty) Beatty of Lakota, ND, and James Harlan Beatty of Devils Lake, ND; 1 sister, Lovina Gow of Chicago, IL; and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Robert Beatty and Claude "Buddy" Beatty; and nephew Bob Beatty.

The Funeral Service will be held at the Lakota Lutheran Church, Lakota, ND, on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Peter Horn. Music will be provided by Patty Cote. Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery. The casketbearers will be John Sundeen, Ross Sundeen, Doug Gow, Steve Tronson, and Jim Aaker. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
