Mabel L. Quanbeck

Mabel Quanbeck, age 84, of McVille, ND, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the NCHS Care Center in McVille.

Mabel Luella Danielson was born July 4, 1932, in rural Dakota County, MN, to Arthur and Nellie (Johnson ) Danielson. She attended elementary school at District #48, a one-room rural school in Dakota County, and attended three years of high school at Lakeville High School and one year at Oak Grove Lutheran High School, Fargo, ND. Following graduation she was enrolled one year at Augsburg College, Minneapolis, MN.

Mabel married Kent Quanbeck on November 8, 1952 at Christiania Lutheran Free Church near Farmington, MN. From 1953 to 1955, Mabel and Kent lived in Colorado Springs, CO, where Kent was in the U.S. Army, and Mabel worked as a stenographer at the Colorado College Admissions Office. They returned to the Quanbeck family farm near McVille in 1955. In addition to working on the family farm and raising their family, she was the bookkeeper for their Surge business, Kent's Farm Service. She additionally was a clerk at Johnson Stores, a dietary aid for Nelson County Health Services, and assistant manager of West Meadows Apartment Complex in McVille.

Mabel was an active member of New Luther Valley Lutheran Church where she served as Ladies Aid President, Church Council Secretary and Regional W.M.F. President. She enjoyed singing solos at church and the NCHS Care Center. Her passion, however, was writing poems, many of which were published.

Mabel is survived by her husband, Kent; four daughters, Karen (David) Grandstrand, Orono, MN, Marlys (Warren) Swanson, Argyle, MN, Diane (Samuel) Grandstrand, Stephen, MN, and Janell (Kevin) Kukowski, Buford, GA, and two sons, Kenneth (Mary) Quanbeck, McVille, ND, and Glen (Angela) Quanbeck, Karlstad, MN; 24 grandchildren, Paul (Rachel) Grandstrand, Rachel (Emily) Gerhardt, Ana (Tyler) Kern, Julia (Tom) Swanson, Amelia Swanson, Ian (Michelle) Swanson, Elizabeth (Aaron) Redepenning, Joshua Swanson, Alexandra Swanson, Andrea (Luke) Borsvold, Philip (Kayla) Grandstrand, Laura Grandstrand, Jenna Grandstrand, Scott Quanbeck, Jacob Quanbeck, Meghan Quanbeck, Ryan Quanbeck, Renee Quanbeck, Tiffany Quanbeck, Zach Norberg, Sheyenne Norberg, Kaiser Kukowski, Kinsey Kukowski, and Kenady Kukowski; 8 great grandchildren, Harper Gerhardt, Levi Kern, Charlotte Kern, Faith Swanson, Thomas Swanson, Micah Swanson, Alice Swanson, and Christopher Grandstrand; 2 sisters-in-law, Ardis (Gordon) Twedt, McHenry, ND, and Charlotte (the late Marvin) Quanbeck, McVille; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Norman Danielson and Maynard Danielson; and one daughter, Laura Quanbeck.

Kent and his family are very thankful and appreciative of the special care that both of them received at NCHS Care Center and also the kind support of many family and friends.

Mabel's Funeral Service will be held at New Luther Valley Lutheran Church, McVille, ND, on Monday, May 8, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at the New Luther Valley Cemetery immediately after. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, May 7, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by the Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.
