Marie (Hazlett) Solberg, 89, a resident of Lakota passed away on March 25, 2026 at Altru Hospital, Devils Lake.
Marie was born on May 30th, 1936 in Rugby, ND to Andrew and Myrtle (Bye) Degenstein. She attended school in Rugby and graduated from Rugby High School. During her high school years she worked after school and on Saturdays at Arts Cleaners and the Pierce County Tribune.
Marie married Wilbur Hazlett on August 15, 1954 and had two daughters Karen and Kathleen. The family moved from Noonan to Lakota in 1970 when Wilbur took a job as principal at Lakota High School.
Marie worked for the law firm Johnson, Johnson and Devine for 22 years and later worked for Nelson County Social Services as administration clerk, where she worked until her retirement in 2008.
In January 1997 she married Don Solberg at Lakota Lutheran Church. The couple enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Arizona.
Marie was a member of Lakota Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and served on the church council. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a volunteer for many years at Stump Lake Park.
Marie is survived by her daughters Karen Doyle and Kathleen Hazlett both of Lakota; 2 grandsons Nicholas (Tiffany) Doyle of West Fargo, North Dakota and Patrick (Emily) Doyle of Mountain View, California; sister-in-law Vonnie Degenstein of Rugby, North Dakota and several nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Wilbur in 1990 and Don in 2009, as well as her brother Philip and sisters Margaret, Ethel, Delores and Ruth.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Lakota Lutheran Church at 2:00 pm with visitation starting at 1:00 pm.
Burial will be at The Lakota Cemetery.
