Marie Louise (Yetzer) Halvorson

Marie Louise (Yetzer) Halvorson, 88 of Pekin, ND, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, surrounded by her family, under the care of hospice.

Marie was born on October 2, 1936 to Edward and Margaret (Ostertag) Yetzer in St. Paul, MN. She grew up on a farm near Rosemount and graduated from Rosemount High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics from St. Catherine’s College in St. Paul. Marie worked as a dietician at the VA hospital in Minneapolis and the General Hospital in St. Paul. She married Daniel S. Halvorson from Pekin on October 24, 1964. They lived and farmed on the homestead where he grew up. Together they raised 5 children. Marie worked as a dietician for many years at nursing homes in Lakota and McVille, ND. She was active in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Tolna, ND and the Nelson County Right to Life. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, cooking, and trying new recipes. The family joke was that we never ate the same thing twice. Marie loved playing Words with Friends, Scrabble, card games, bird-watching, and traveling. She had such a great sense of humor and joyous laugh, and that is something we will greatly miss.

Marie is survived by her 5 children, Ann (Harold) Rotunda, Lora (Tom) Kraft, Brian Halvorson, Susan (Gene) Thompson and Brenda (Gault) Robinson; grandchildren, Hillary, Luke (Abigail) and Lauren Rotunda, Dawson and Carter Kraft, and Chase and Sydney Robinson; great-grandchild, Adalia Marie Rotunda; siblings, Lucille Seymour, Marcella Palma, Bernadette Stoffel, Edward (Rita) Yetzer, and Jeanne (Vern) Kramer; brothers-in-law, Aloyus (Arlene) Halvorson and Murill Halvorson; sister-in-law, Carol Halvorson; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel; parents Edward and Margaret; parents-in-law, Rudolph and Nora Halvorson; siblings, Irene (Darrel) Johnson, Robert (Sally) Yetzer, Florence (Edward) Reid, Howard Yetzer, Alfred Yetzer, Joan Yetzer and Donald Yetzer; brothers-in-law, LaVern (Jean) Halvorson, Dennis (Sylvia) Halvorson, Art (Marie) Halvorson, Terrence Halvorson, Russ Seymour, Jim Palma, and Wally Stoffel; sister-in-law, Liv Halvorson; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Tolna, ND.

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm with a rosary at 6:40 pm and prayer service at 7:00 pm on Friday, February 7, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Tolna. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 10-11 am at the church.

Interment will be at the Tolna Cemetery.
