Obituary

Marilyn Y. Bowman, 90, McVille, ND, passed away on June 16, 2026 at the Nelson County Health System Care Center.

Marilyn Yvonne Shay was born on January 1, 1936 in Mitchell, SD to Harvey and Yvonne (Rubida) Shay. She grew up and attended school at Mt. Vernon, SD. After graduating from high school, Marilyn went to business college in Rapid City, SD.

While in Rapid City, Marilyn met Alex Peterson; and after they were married, moved to Grand Forks, ND. They lived in various places including, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania before settling back to Grand Forks in 1970.

Marilyn met Ferrell Bowman and the couple were married on February 16, 1979. She worked for UND School of Medicine, in charge of patient billing. After losing their house in the Grand Forks flood, Marilyn and Ferrell settled in McVille.

Marilyn is survived by 2 sons, James (Debra) Peterson, McVille and Mark (Janelle) Peterson, Cookville, TN; step-daughter, Melinda Dietz, Warren, MN; 6 grandchildren, Jesse (Este) Adams, Shaylynn Peterson, Angela Rubash, Riley Anderson, John Flom and Tabitha (Darian) Garfve; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Gary Shay, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ferrell; parents; infant son, Ricky; brother, Les (Jeanne) Shay; and sister-in-law, Glenice Shay.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026 at Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home, McVille, ND with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
