Marvin P. Hildre

Marvin Peter Hildre, age 98, of McVille, ND passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Bethany on University in Fargo, ND.

Marvin was born April 6, 1918 in Petersburg, ND the son of Martin and Margaret (Asbjornson) Hildre. He grew up and attended school in Petersburg, graduating from Petersburg High School in 1936. Marvin was sent to Washington with the Civilian Conservation Corp where he worked as a BR clerk. Marvin entered the United States Marine Corps on April 15, 1942. He was engaged at Guadacanal, New Guinea, Peleliu Island and Cape Gloucester before his discharge on April 19, 1946. On January 1, 1947 he married Charlotte Thompson. After their marriage the couple lived in Michigan, Fargo, and Larimore before making their home in McVille, ND. Marvin had been employed at the Johnson Store in Larimore and transferred to manage the store in McVille. In 1960 the Hildre’s purchased the Johnson Store and continued to run it until 1981.

Marvin was a member of the McVille American Legion Post 135 and served as commander. He was a member of McVille Lutheran Church where he served on the church board, McVille Commercial Club president, and alderman for 12 years before becoming the second mayor of McVille where he served 8 years. Marvin also worked for the McVille Park Board for 17 years.

Surviving members of the family are his children: Spencer (Mary) Hildre of Fargo, ND, Scott (Miriam) Hildre of Fargo, ND, and Stephanie (David) Sateren of Michigan, ND; grandchildren: Nathan (Ali), Christopher, Charlotte (Shane), Scott, Toby (Brandon), Joshua (Jenni) and Jessica (Adam); great grandchildren: Brook, Jackie, Lucas, Autumn, Rylee, Isabelle, Lila, Ryker and Kynley; great great grandchild Zane; sister-in-law Janice Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife Charlotte, and brothers and sisters: Arnold, Stella, Bertha, Violet, Pearl and Peter.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at McVille Lutheran Church, McVille, ND. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church until the time of service. Military honors will be by Ole Semling American Legion Post 135, McVille, ND and North Dakota Military Honors Team. Interment will be at McVille Cemetery, McVille, ND.
