Marvin A. Thorson

Marvin A. Thorson, age 98, died peacefully on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota, ND.

Marvin was born January 18, 1917 to Anton and Martha (Lillehaug) Thorson on the family farm in Nelson County. He was raised there and attended the Enterprise Consolidated School at Pelto, ND. Marvin lived a life of farming on the family farm with his brothers. After retiring he chose to assist Gordon and Scott Nelson on their farm for several years. He lived in Grand Forks for several years before moving to Lakota a year ago. Marvin demonstrated solid values of honesty, integrity and good will. He had a good sense of humor which amused his nieces and nephews as they were growing up. He was very generous with the ice cream cones and candy.

A favorite uncle, Marvin leaves several nieces and nephews to mourn his death; Marlys (C. Miles) Carlson of Appleton, WI, Manley (Arlys, dec) Lokken of San Jose, CA, Marlin (Betty) Smith of Raymore, MO, Don (Evelyn) Smith of Spencer, IA, Arlys (Burton) Sierck of Spencer, IA, Ralph (Lois) Smith of Scottsdale, AZ; and a cousin, Arvid Jacobson of Lakota, ND.

Preceding him in death are his parents; three brothers, John, Adolph, and Manville, killed in action in 1943; three sisters, Clara Olson, Olga Lillehaugen, and Ruth Smith; two nieces, Arlys Lokken and Mavis Bresee.

Marvin's family wishes to thank Gordon, Darlene, Scott, and Faye Nelson for their kind concern and care of Marvin for many years.

The Funeral Service for Marvin will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, ND, on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Tedd Rieke. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in the family plot at the Hoff Cemetery, rural Brocket, ND.
