Mary Lysne

July 30, 1923 — November 6, 2014

Mary LaVon (Otto) Lysne passed away in San Antonio, Texas on November 6, 2014.

Ms Lysne was born near Tolna, North Dakota to George and Mary Esther (Ward) Otto on July 30, 1923. She married Army First Lieutenant Paynee O. Lysne. They had two children, Dianne (Keil) and Bruce Lysne. She received Bachelor of Science and MBA degrees from Trinity University, and completed doctoral course work at the University of Houston. Ms Lysne capped her 34-year career as an educator, which included selection as Business Teacher of the Year in 1968, as the Community and Adult Education Administrator for the Edgewood School District.

Active in both professional and community groups, her affiliations included the International Society of Business Educators, National Business Education Association, NBEA-Mountain Plains, Texas Business Education Association, Business Education Teachers Association (President and Vice-President), National Association of State Supervisors of Business and Office Education, Texas Junior College Teachers Association, American Vocational Association, Administrative Management Society (Educational Director), Texas Public Employees Association (TEA Chapter Secretary), Phi Delta Kappa, Delta Phi Epsilon, American Association of University Women (Secretary for two years), and Business and Professional Women. Ms. Lysne was a member of the San Antonio Women's Garden Club, University Women's Garden Club and Historic Southwest. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church in San Antonio for almost sixty years. She was an avid globetrotter who loved traveling with friends and visiting her children stationed overseas.

She is survived by her children, Lieutenant Colonel (U.S. Army, Retired) Bruce Lysne and his wife Diane, and Dianne (Lysne) and her husband Chuck Keil; four grandchildren: Joseph Keil, Matthew Keil, Jennifer (Lysne) Parker and Cynthia (Lysne) Bridwell; seven great grandchildren: Kailey and Emily Frownfelter, Conner and Charlie Bridwell, Soraya and Yasmine Keil, and Austin Keil. She also has three sisters, Muriel Pare (D), Elaine Weiss, and Verana Rohman.

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at American Lutheran Church, Tolna, ND. Visitation will be held an hour prior to services in the church. Interment will be in Tolna Cemetery, Tolna, ND.
