Mary Ann Rysavy

Mary Ann Rysavy, age 90, resident of Grand Forks, ND, formerly of Michigan, ND, died Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

Mary Ann Maresh was born January 9, 1934 in Lankin, ND, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Shirek) Maresh.  She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Michigan High School in 1951.  Mary Ann married Clarence Rysavy on October 14, 1953 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Bechyne.  They farmed together near Whitman, ND, where Mary Ann loved her chickens and milking cows.  She had also worked as cook and custodian at the Whitman school, the Johnson Store in Michigan, and was also a CNA at the Michigan Rest Home and the Good Samaritan Home in Lakota.  She had been a member of the Whitman Homemakers, the Catholic Women’s Club, and the Red Hat Society.  Clarence died October 8, 2007.  Mary Ann continued living on the farm until she moved to Grand Forks.

Mary Ann will be missed by her 2 sons, Franklin (Lauri) Rysavy and Michael Rysavy (Michelle Fox), both of Michigan, ND; 5 grandchildren, Danielle (Ben) Gjovik, Nicholas Rysavy (Katie Peavy), Kylie (Charles) Schmitz, Krystyne Rysavy, and Natasha (Cheyenne) Galent; 9 great-grandchildren, Julia & Jaxson Gjovik, Hayley Rysavy, Clara & Leo Schmitz, Nevaeh Rysavy, Arabelle Best, and Nalah & Kitana Galent; and many nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; son, Gaylon; and 3 brothers, Roland, Gordon, and Herman.

The Funeral Mass for Mary Ann will be held at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church, Michigan, ND, on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be in the Michigan Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the Church on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Michigan Cemetery.
