Mavis C. Anderson, age 85, of Fargo, ND died Friday, October 14, 2016 at Essentia Health in Fargo.

Mavis Corrine Fjeld was born February 7, 1931 in Kloten, ND, the daughter of Carl and Marion Fjeld.

She grew up in the area and graduated from Kloten High School. After graduation she moved to Fargo and worked for Bristol Distributing while living above Leeby's grocery store. Mavis married Orville I. Anderson, also of Kloten, ND, on October 26, 1950 and enjoyed many years living and farming 7 miles east of McVille, ND; her original family farm.

Mavis enjoyed spending time and held offices in the McVille American Legion Auxiliary, the McVille PTA, Our Saviors Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, and the McVille ladies night golf league. When Orville and Mavis retired, they spent winters in North Padre Island, TX where they met new friends, reconnected with distant family members, and had the time of their life. After Orville died Mavis made her home in Fargo to be closer to family. While in Fargo Mavis volunteered for the Mobile Blood Bank.

Mavis's most cherished moments were spent with her family who would insist she play her accordion or electric organ. Mavis never had formal lessons; instead played by ear. Dancing with Orville at the local dances was a special moment for Mavis and she thoroughly enjoyed those opportunities as well as spending time with friends. For 15 years she made it a priority to have her family at Ice Cracking Lake for one summer week to share time together and reconnect. She had a quick wit and a big heart. Mavis never had a bad word to say to or about anyone. She would listen and dole out advice only when asked...or when one of her kids may have stepped out of line.

Mavis is survived by her five children, Lance (Ruth) Anderson of Port St. Lucie, FL, Bradley (Jana) Anderson of Fort Collins, CO, Vicki (Dwight) Cavic of Fargo, ND, Shelly (Michael) Backlund of Greeley, CO, and Cory (Kristi) Anderson of Jamestown, ND; 11 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild and one on the way; and sister Carol (Val) Marback of West Fargo, ND.

Mavis is preceded in death by her husband, father, mother, sister and beloved grandson Drew.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, rural Kloten, ND. Visitation will begin Thursday at 10 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Our Saviors Lutheran Church Cemetery. Honors will be provided by the McVille American Legion Auxiliary, Ole Semling Unit 135.
