Maxine Holm

Maxine Vivian (Oien) Holm, age 81, resident of Lakota, ND, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota.

Maxine was born November 5, 1933 on a farm outside of Halstad, MN, to Earl and Constance (Langaunet) Oien. She attended a rural elementary school before graduating from Halstad High School in 1951, then continued on to Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND. She married her high school sweetheart, Morris Holm, on June 23, 1956 in Halstad. Morrie's military duty took them on brief tours through California, Kentucky, and Colorado before returning to North Dakota with residences in Cavalier and Carson before settling in Lakota in 1966. Maxine worked at Lakota Farm Service for many years before her retirement. She was a member of Lakota Lutheran Church where she was active in choir, advisor for youth groups, and various circles. She also served in the community as a 4H leader and was an active member of the Lakota Golf Club. Maxine loved to cook and sew, and also was an avid novel reader. She had a passion for baking and decorating cakes for special occasions. But mostly, Maxine loved her time with Morrie and mothering their three children.

Maxine will be greatly missed by her dedicated husband, Morris of Lakota; daughter, Dawn (Tom) of Fargo; sons, Paige (Dorothy) of Phoenix, AZ and Javen (Anne) of Fairmont, MN; five grandchildren, Brady Holm of Sioux Falls, SD, Brennan Holm of Des Moines, IA, Bryce Holm of Fairmont, and Mikayle Holm and Peyton Holm of Phoenix; and a brother, Wallace (Betty) of Halstad.

She was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, Wendell.

Maxine's Funeral Service will be held at the Lakota Lutheran Church on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will continue at the church on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
