Mildred A. Matejcek, age 97, resident of Brocket, ND, died Friday, December 9, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota, ND, after suffering from recent illnesses.

Mildred Alice Kosobud was born January 20, 1919 in Shepherd Township of Walsh County, ND, on the home farm of her parents, James and Frances (Pachl) Kosobud. She attended school in the area and also 2 years in Conway with her brother, Herman. Mildred was an 8th grade graduate winning awards in spelling and penmanship, she also excelled in math. As an adolescent she and her sister, Alice, helped during harvest season with cooking meals for the laborers from an old cook wagon; she also determined their wages. Mildred married Lawrence Matejcek on June 24, 1946. They lived in Brocket for 68 years together until Lawrence’s death on February 7, 2015. Mildred was a member of the WFLA Kosobud Lodge #106 for over 75 years. Her favorite hobby was dancing but she also enjoyed embroidery, nature, gardening, baking, reading, and travelling. Her best baked items, and also family favorites, were kolaches, potato dumplings, chocolate chip and sugar cookies.

Mildred will be missed by her 3 children, Carol & her husband Dwight Bump of Albany, WI, Shirley Morgen and Dennis Matejcek, both of Brocket; 4 grandchildren, Stefanie & her husband Brian Kontny of WI, Brandon & his wife Cami Broe of WI, Jason & his wife Kelly Morgen of TX, and Lindsay Matejcek & her significant other Jason Ruud of ND; 9 great grandchildren, Bella, Kye, Ian, Tanner, Aalina, Christopher, Zachery, Kylen, and Cambria; 2 step-great grandchildren, MaKayla and Caitlyn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence; son, Darrell; brother, Herman Kosobud; and sister, Alice Matejcek.

The Funeral Service for Mildred will be held at United Lutheran Church, Brocket, ND, on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Jodi Myrvik. Interment will be in the spring at the WFLA Kosobud Cemetery, rural Lankin, ND. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service.
