Milton E. Sampson was born June 2, 1924 in Triumph Township, near Edmore, ND, the son of Abner and Mabel (Trimble) Sampson. He attended grade school in Triumph Township and high school in Edmore, graduating in 1942 as valedictorian of his class. Milt also attended NDSU in Fargo for a time. He started farming in 1945 with his brother, Abner Jr.
Milton was active in community affairs and has served on many boards. They include the Farmers Shipping & Supply of Edmore for 32 years, the Ramsey County Water Management board for 25 years, the Ramsey County Housing Authority, and the Edmore Economic Development Corporation. He was also clerk of Triumph Township for many years. Milt was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Edmore and was president of the building committee when the new church was built in 1963. He also belongs to the Devils Lake Elks Lodge and the Langdon Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Edmore Curling Club and curled for many years. Milt enjoyed hunting, fishing, sporting events, and reading. He lived in Edmore at the home once occupied by his parents until October of 2013 when he moved to Heartland Care Center.
Milton is survived by 3 brothers, Abner Jr. & his wife Jackie of Edmore, Frank of Boulder, CO, and Clark & his wife Lou of Edmore; a sister-in-law, Carlyn "Lyn" Sampson of Grand Forks, ND; 5 nephews, Lloyd, Dan, Bruce, Owen, and Ned; 3 nieces, Beth Pakola, Christine Bushy, and Ellen Sampson; and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Douglas.
Milton's Funeral Service will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church of Edmore, ND, on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Don Reynolds. The organist will be Valerie Sampson. Interment will be in the spring at the Edmore Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
