Mitchell E. "Mick" Rice

Mitchell E. "Mick" Rice, age 61, resident of rural Edmore, ND, died Monday, June 22, 2015 at his home near Edmore.

Mitchell Elliot Rice was born May 21, 1954 in Edmore, ND, the son of James C. and Dolores E. (Stoa) Rice. He was raised on the family farm near Edmore. Mitchell was educated in the Edmore Public School, graduating in 1972. He lived and worked in various locations across the United States, including California, Arizona, and Indiana. He loved travelling and enjoyed the scenic countryside. Mitchell married Mary Hagemeyer and had a beautiful daughter, Janessa. They later divorced. He farmed near Edmore for a short time, then moved to Jamestown, ND, where he farmed until he began working for the Jamestown Sun for many years. Mitchell moved back to the family farm a few years ago. He loved nature and being outdoors, which is what brought him back to the farm. He was an avid hunter and gun collector, and also loved to ride his motorcycle.

Mitchell will be missed by his daughter, Janessa (Brett) Huntley of Robbinsdale, MN; sister, Deborah (Stephen) Irwin of Zionsville, IN; brother, Thomas (Marta) Rice of Minneapolis, MN; nephew, Michael (Shaun) Irwin and their 3 daughters of Fishers, IN; niece, Rachel (Matthew) Beauchamp and their 2 children of Zionsville, IN; several cousins, aunts, and uncles; and his dog, Reno, whom Mick had gotten from his good friend, Curt Weberg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his good friends, Craig Pesek and Tom.

The Memorial Service for Mitchell will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church of Edmore, ND, on Friday, June 26, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Don Reynolds. Interment will be in the St. Hans Lutheran Cemetery, rural Edmore.
