Myrtle L. Ophaug

Myrtle Louise Ophaug, 90, of McVille, ND passed away February 6, 2015 at the Nelson County Health System Hospital in McVille after a brief illness.

Myrtle was born March 1, 1924 the youngest daughter of Nels and Marie (Gustavsdotter) Ophaug. She graduated from McVille High School. Myrtle lived on the family farm at Kloten and later moved to McVille where she was a homemaker and caregiver for her brothers and mother. She lived independently at home until her death. She was a life-long member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and WELCA, Kloten, ND. She is remembered as an excellent cook, baker, and lefse maker. She also enjoyed gardening, quilting, and sewing.

Myrtle is survived by nieces and nephews: Gary (Karlene) Ophaug, Edina, MN; Jim (Debra) Meunier, Apple Valley, MN; John (Patsy) Ophaug, Northfield, MN; John (Bonnie) Kallestad, Milnor, MN; David Ophaug and Nancy (Jeff) Holt, Grand Forks, ND; Gloria Kolas Mayer, McHenry, IL; Olen (Laurie) Ophaug, McVille, ND; Lars Ophaug, St. Paul, MN; Kristi (Les) Berdal, Aneta, ND; Rodney (Kathy) Kallestad, Garrison, ND; Karen (Dean Sauter) Kallestad, Polson, MT; and Judy Kallestad, Maplewood, MN. She is also survived by many great and great-great nieces and nephews; her sister-in-law Rosella (Donovan) Sebenaler, Grand Forks, ND; and special friends and neighbors Gary and Debbie Johnson, McVille, ND.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters: Clarence, Oscar, George, Theodore, Nora (Kolas), Merley, Gladys (Kallestad), Ruth (Meunier), William, and Esther; nieces Janis (Ophaug) Storey and Agatha Kolas; and nephews Michael Meunier and Ted Kolas.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, rural Kloten, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home, McVille, ND, and continue one hour prior to services in the church. Interment will be in the spring at Our Saviors Lutheran Church Cemetery.
