Myrtle E. Overby
January 22, 1929 — January 15, 2017
Myrtle E. Overby, 87, of Binford, ND passed away Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Griggs County Care Center in Cooperstown, ND.
Myrtle was born January 22, 1929, the daughter of Lars and Laura Omdal. Myrtle married Gordon Overby September 22, 1951 in Valley City, ND, and moved to the farm west of Binford. Myrtle taught school in the Finley and Binford areas for several years before settling in as a homemaker and raising her family on the farm. Myrtle had a love for reading, gardening, and nature; especially watching birds feeding in the yard. Above all was her love for the Truth, and a love for her husband and five boys.
Myrtle is survived by her husband of 65 years, Gordon Overby of Binford, ND along with their 5 children: Lyle (Roberta), Jamestown, ND, Richard (Ann), West Fargo, ND, Craig (Kathleen), Orcas Island, WA, Miles (Lana), Rapid City, SD, and Glenn (Judi), Kennewick, WA, brother Cliff Omdal, Cooperstown, ND, sisters Alma Overby, Cooperstown, ND and Florence Bruer, Phoenix, AZ, 16 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, brother Marvin Omdal, sister Lillian Overby, and great grandchild Ivy Peyton Nelson.
Funeral services for Myrtle will be held Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11 a.m. in Midkota Elementary School Gymnasium, Binford, ND. Visitation will be Friday, January 20, 2017 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in Cooperstown Funeral Chapel, Cooperstown, ND and will continue one hour prior to services in the school. Spring interment will be in Binford Cemetery.
