Nester Ellwein, age 78, of Lakota, ND died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota.
Nester Leo Ellwein was born November 16, 1934 in Mercer County, ND, the son of Leo and Irma (Grosz) Ellwein. He was raised and attended school in rural Pick City, ND. Nester married LaVain Kiihn on July 3, 1956 in Pick City. They lived on the family farm until moving to Minot in 1960. Nester's construction career had the family moving several times. In 1965 they moved to Trego, MT for a short time, then to Empire, CO as well. The family moved to Lakota in 1970 when Nester took a job in Nekoma, ND on the missile site. He also worked for Coal Creek in Washburn, ND, Coyote and Antelope Valley power plants in Beulah, ND and Crystal Sugar in Hillsboro, ND. Between construction jobs Nester worked for Wiseman Standard driving the wrecker and retrieving vehicles that had fallen through the ice during the ice fishing season. He was a volunteer fire fighter with the Lakota Fire Dept. Nester's hobbies included fishing, gardening and working on motors of all kind.
Nester will be missed by his children, 2 sons, Terry of Thief River Falls, MN and Scott of Lakota; 1 daughter, Lori (Todd) DesLauriers of Eagle Lake, MN; 3 grandchildren, Lexi, Karli and Brady; 2 brothers, Robert (Linda) Ellwein of Pick City, ND and Donald (Joyce) Ellwein of Washburn, ND; 1 brother-in-law, Duane (Linda) Flemmer of Ft. Mohave, AZ.
Nester is preceded in death by his parents; and wife LaVain.
Funeral Services for Nester will be Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to services in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery.
