Olaf Tveito, age 101, resident of Lakota, ND, formerly of Petersburg, ND, died Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Lakota Good Samaritan Center.


Olaf Tveito was born October 12, 1909 on the family farm in Nash Township of Nelson County, ND, the second of four children born to Ole and Margit (Sorteberg) Tveito. He was raised on the family farm and attended rural schools in the area. After receiving his education, he began farming with his family. Olaf sheared sheep, worked on the WPA, and worked on threshing crews. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 30, 1942 at Fort Snelling , MN. The most interesting job Olaf had was while being stationed in England during World War II. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged on November 2, 1945 at Camp McCoy , WI . He returned home and continued farming. His dream as a child was to farm, which he did with great enjoyment. Olaf never married, but enjoyed his nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Petersburg Lutheran Church and the John Larson American Legion Post #247. Throughout his life Olaf was able to travel to many places including England, Ireland, Norway, and many locations across the U.S.A. He moved to the Good Samaritan Center in July of 2007.

Olaf is survived by 5 nieces and nephews, Darrel (Kathy) Nash of Lawton, ND, Lonnie (Dave) Larson of Buffalo, ND, Cheryl (Scott) Schara of Winter, WI, Randall Anderson of Brookings, SD, and Larry (Rochelle) Anderson of Aurora, OH; and several members of his extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Thor; and 2 sisters, Myrtle Anderson and Selma Nash.

Olaf's Funeral Service will be held at the Petersburg Lutheran Church, Petersburg, ND, on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Gary Knabe. Interment will be in the Petersburg Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the John Larson American Legion Post #247 of Petersburg. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota, ND, on Friday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
