P. Eugene Kubat, age 89, resident of rural Lawton, ND, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at his home.
Palmer Eugene Kubat was born March 11, 1923 on his parent's farm in Sauter Township of Walsh County, ND, the son of Joseph E. and Albina (Zizka) Kubat. He was raised on the farm and attended the Sauter School. He helped his dad on the farm, eventually taking over operation of the farm in 1947. Eugene married Margaret Josephine Pich on October 13, 1947 at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Lomice. While Eugene was farming he also had many other talents. He was a great carpenter, working for Matejcek Construction for many years. He was a road grader for Sauter Township , and was the Township Clerk for 50 years. He also was an electrical lineman for several years. He enjoyed deer hunting and ice fishing.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Margaret Kubat; 2 sons, Terrence Eugene (Vicki) of Langdon, ND and Randy (special friend, Laurie) of Thornton, CO; 5 grandchildren, Troy (Gemma) of Rogers, AR, Brent (Amber) of Montgomery, MN, Brooke of Grand Forks, ND, Kelsey of Keystone, CO, and Justin of Thornton, CO; 5 great grandchildren, Nicholas, Landon, Austin, Ayden, and Briley; sister, Dorine Gerstner of Langdon, ND; sister-in-law, Margaret Kubat of Detroit Lakes, MN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Kubat; and a grandson, Harvey Eugene Kubat.
The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Lakota, ND, on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Celebrating the Mass will be Rev. Fr. Steven Meyer. Music will be provided by the St. Mary Church Choir, Barbara Johnson is the organist. Burial will be at a later date in St. Catherine Catholic Church Cemetery, Lomice, rural Lawton , ND . The casketbearers will be Troy Kubat, Brent Kubat, Brooke Kubat, Kelsey Kubat, Justin Kubat, James Herda Jr., and Bob Kubat. The honorary casketbearers will be Ted Matejcek, James Herda Sr., Gordon Matejcek, Earl Miller, Ron Dahlen, Earl Nickerson, and all of Eugene 's friends. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday, beginning at 4:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
