Obituary

Patrick Charles Riely, a proud Navy Veteran, dedicated farmer, and the heartbeat of every family gathering, passed away on May 6th 2026 at the age of 83.

Born in Grand Forks, ND to Willis and Alice (Byrne) Riely. Pat’s life was defined by service, hard work, and an unwavering love for his family. He honorably served 20 years in the United States Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer before returning to the wide-open skies of North Dakota to join the family farm with his brother, Tom. Whether he was at sea or in the tractor, he approached every day with quiet strength and a sailor’s grit.

Though he traveled the world, his favorite journeys were the ones spent closer to home. He never missed a family milestone, often hitting the road with his beloved sister, Bonnie. To Pat, a family event wasn't complete until he found his way to the dance floor where he never turned down a good song or a chance to spin a partner around.

Above all, his greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted father to his daughter Maria and his son Richard, a loving grandfather to Mckenzee, Cody and Alexis and a doting great-grandfather. He taught them the value of a hard day's work, the importance of showing up for the people you love, and the joy of a dance shared among friends.

Pat is survived by his children, Maria (Matt) McCoy and Richard (Candace) Riely; siblings, Bonnie (Dick) Vasicheck, Dick (Deb) Riely, Jim (Jan) Riely, and Ellen (Jim) Hauser; sister-in-law, Marsha Riely; brother-in-law, Ken (Kathy) Jarolimek; grandchildren, Mckenzee (Tate) Aronson, Alexis (Zach) McDonald and Cody Riely. He will also be greatly missed by his great grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Colbie, Chesney and Charley Aronson and Maverick Riely.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Alice Riely; his brothers, Michael and Tom Riely; sisters, Susan Gustin and Janice Jarolimek; and great niece, Josie Greenwood.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church, Michigan, ND with visitation one hour before mass.

Burial will be at the Michigan Cemetery following the funeral mass, with military honors.
