Paul Conrad Skjervem, age 64, resident of rural Brocket, ND, passed peacefully on Christmas Day 2024 on the farm.

Paul was born June 6, 1960 in Michigan, ND, to Leland and Margaret (Anderson) Skjervem.  He lived a life full of hard work, laughter, and generosity.  He grew up on the family farm near Whitman, ND, and from a young age, he started working alongside his dad.  Whether it was tending to the fields, fixing machinery, or embracing farm life, these early experiences instilled in Paul a deep pride in the family farm and a strong work ethic that shaped his future.

Paul attended school in Whitman and Michigan, ND, graduating in 1978.  After high school, he pursued a degree in automotive maintenance at East Grand Forks AVTI.  Paul began his career at JC Penney, working as an automotive technician for nine years, and later worked briefly at the Emerado elevator.  A collector of antiques, Paul also lent a hand to Elton Magnus’s auctions, where he loved helping organize and run events.

He raised many animals on the farm, including horses, pheasants, ducks, chickens, livestock, and many cats.  Paul had a deep love for his dogs, who brought him joy and companionship throughout his life.  Paul managed the Michigan Café and owned the Buckshot Lodge in Lakota.  Food was his way to bring people together.  He was proud of his work and the regulars felt an attachment to his family.

Paul cherished the outdoors, spending countless hours hunting, fishing, and farming.  He shared his love for nature with friends, family, and guests at his lodge and home.  Paul also found great joy in helping his daughter, Shaylie, with dirt track racing, a special bonding experience they both treasured.

Later in life, Paul developed a passion for building custom fishing rods and enjoyed tending to his garden, crafting homemade salsa, jams, and pickles that he loved to share.

Above all, Paul’s greatest pride was his family.  He lovingly raised two daughters, Caitlin and Shaylie, and was thrilled to meet his daughter, Lynette, later in life.

Paul Skjervem will be remembered as a hardworking, kind-hearted man, with a passion for nature, and a knack for bringing people together.  His legacy lives on in the stories he told, the lives he touched, and the love he gave.

Paul is survived by his daughters, Caitlin (Brook) of West Fargo, Shaylie of Fargo, and Lynette (Todd) Johnson of Horace, ND; granddaughters, Taryn and Lyana of Horace, ND; siblings, Loren (Liz) Skjervem of Rapid City, SD, Lisa (Karmen) Johnson of Fargo, and Glenna Fosse of Grand Forks; nieces, Andrea, Erica, Sabre, and Amber; and nephew, Bryan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; and brother-in-law, Jeff Fosse.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Michigan Lutheran Church of Michigan, ND, on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 1:00 p.m.  Interment will be private at the West Forest Cemetery, near Whitman, ND.

Paul has asked that memorial donations be made to the Michigan Food Pantry and/or the West Forest Cemetery in lieu of flowers.  He had also asked that those in attendance wear casual or western attire.
