Phyllis M. Beck

Phyllis M. Beck, age 91, resident of Mayville, ND, formerly of Brocket, ND, died Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville.

Phyllis Maxine Anderson was born May 15, 1926 in Brocket, ND, the daughter of Obert and Irene (Schroeder) Anderson. She graduated from Brocket High School in 1944, attended Concordia College and Valley City State College earning a teaching certificate. She taught school in Penn and Grafton from 1946 - 1949. Phyllis married Frank M. Beck, from Palisade, MN, on August 14, 1949 at the Vaage Lutheran Church in Brocket. They lived in Viborg and Marion, SD, from 1949 - 1950. They then moved to a farm near Brocket. Phyllis taught school in Brocket from 1968 - 1976. She served as Sunday School Superintendent, played organ in church, sang in the choir, and was treasurer of United Lutheran Church in Brocket. She also was a postal worker for 22 years. Phyllis was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also known for her delicious lefse, T-ring, and krumkake.

Phyllis and Frank had one son, Frank R. Beck of Brocket; one daughter, Audrey Knudson of Clifford, ND; six grandchildren, Derrick (Jessica) Beck, Travis (Beth) Beck, Jay (Marianne) Knudson, Justin Knudson, Jeremy (Kayla) Knudson, and Emily (Chris) Howard; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Cyril “Bud” (Jeanette) Anderson of Lakota, ND, and Dennis (Janice) Anderson of Prior Lake, MN; and two sisters-in-law, Pat Beck and Betty Beck.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her son-in-law, Dennis Knudson.

The Memorial Service for Phyllis will be held at United Lutheran Church of Brocket on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Jodi Myrvik. The pianist will be Jason Flom, with special music provided by the High Plains Trio. The honorary urn bearers will be all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
