Rodger D. Anderson, age 75, resident of Lakota, ND, died Thursday, August 6, 2015 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.
Rodger Dean Anderson was born October 30, 1939 at Hallock, MN, the first of six children born to Harry W. and Clara (Roppel) Anderson. The family lived on farms around the Lake Bronson and Halma area until moving to ND in the spring of 1948. They lived on a farm near Loma for 3 years, then bought a farm 5 miles north of Edmore in 1952. Rodger attended school in Lake Bronson, MN through the 4th grade, then attended a country school near Loma until 1952. He then attended the Edmore Public School before helping on the family farm. He was baptized in the Bethany Lutheran Church of Edmore and was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Hampden. He was a past member of the Derrick Lutheran Church of Derrick, ND. Rodger joined the National Guard in 1959. Rodger married Luanne L. Loreth of Langdon, ND on September 30, 1961. They lived on Rodger’s home farm until January 1962 when they moved to Lakota. Rodger started working for Knetter Cheese Co. on February 7, 1962. He started as a truck driver, then cheesemaker, fieldman, and he managed the Knetter hog farm prior to managing the Knetter Cheese Co. He worked for over 31 years there and retired in May of 1993. He started working for Bob & Lorraine Marquart, then continued working for Rick & Deb Marquart until he was diagnosed with cancer in May of 2012. Rodger was a member of the Lakota Lutheran Church at Lakota. Rodger & Luanne enjoyed fishing and camping with their children, family, and friends ever since their children were little. They were campground hosts at Lake Ashtabula near Valley City, ND, for 5 years. They enjoyed the last 9 winters in Apache Junction, AZ, where Rodger was active in a shuffle board league.
Rodger will be deeply missed by his wife, Luanne Anderson of Lakota; daughter, Deanna Rude (special friend, Keith Kary) of Alexandria, MN; son, Rick (Diana) Anderson of Walhalla, ND; grandson, Derrick Neuenfeld (special friend, Angel Brooks) of Alexandria, MN; 3 brothers, Ron (Mary) of Dickinson, ND, Virgil of Lakota; and LaMar of Edmore, ND; 1 sister, Esther (Darrel) Leith of Lakota; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and numerous close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gary Anderson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Gladys Loreth; stepfather-in-law, Lawrence Seagren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Francis and Mary Loreth; and 2 nephews, John and Troy Loreth.
The Funeral Service will be held in the Lakota Lutheran Church on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Tedd Rieke. The organist will be Karen Fowler. Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Sunday, August 9, 2015 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Monday, beginning at 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.
