Roger C. Sateren

Roger C. Sateren, age 78, resident of Lakota, ND, died peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2024 at his home in Lakota.

Roger Clarence Sateren was born September 19, 1945 in Lakota, ND, the son of Clarence and Lorraine (Howen) Sateren.  He graduated from Lakota High School in 1963 and joined the National Guard in 1966.  He enjoyed farming & ranching, working with sheep & cattle, and helping others and with the family farm near Mapes.  Roger married Joan Horsager on November 24, 1973 and welcomed sons, Jason & Blair.  After farming, he spent many years as groundskeeper and other positions at Rock Creek Golf Course.  He enjoyed hunting, golfing, being a grandpa, making sausage, and he won the 1st Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation raffle in North Dakota and got an elk tag, which he filled near Walhalla.  Roger loved taking trips to western North Dakota hunting, and helping with cattle & shearing sheep.  There is nothing that he couldn’t do and always had to be busy, when he wasn’t at coffee.  He had a large role in the American Legion, and held many positions at the local, state, and federal levels.

Roger will be missed by his wife of 50 years, Joan; 2 sons, Jason (April) of Devils Lake, ND and Blair (Kassi) of Park River, ND; 6 grandchildren, Brock, Corbin, Sidney, RoriBeth, Freya, and Georgianna; 2 sisters, Bernice Johnson and Mary Jane “Janie” Pflaum, both of Grand Forks, ND; a brother, Lorne Sateren of Lakota; 2 sisters-in-law, Lorene Sateren of Thief River Falls, MN and Grace Sateren of Lakota; and several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Clifford and Burton; and a sister, Gloria Estvold.

The Memorial Service for Roger will be held at the Lakota Lutheran Church, Lakota, ND, on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be at the Lakota Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and will continue at the church on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
