Ruth Carol (Gunter) Brua, of McVille, North Dakota, passed from this life at the age of 82 on April 26, 2017 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Ruth was born on October 23, 1934 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Irvan and Myrtle (Nelson) Gunter. She was the third of their 5 children: Betty (Pete) Kleigle, Richard (Alice) Gunter of Towner, North Dakota, Larry (Jane) Gunter of Towner, North Dakota, and Sharon (Virgil) Wise of Alice, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, and Betty, Pete and Larry. As a young child she lived in Manville, ND. Later she lived in and attended school in Erskine, MN and Pharr, TX.

Ruth married Robert Brua on July 31, 1953 in Erskine, MN. They farmed near McIntosh, MN for 14 years. In 1967, they moved to North Dakota to begin beekeeping. At first they lived in Kloten, then Aneta, and finally settled in McVille. Every winter from January until May (until they retired in 2002) they transported their bees to Bay City, Texas.

Ruth and Robert had five children: Rochelle Brua (deceased), Randy (Glenna) Brua of Wylie, TX; Raphael (Debie) Brua of Ballico, CA; Renee (Roger) Feiler of Alexandria, MN; Raenelle (Clint) Howay of Bay City, MI. They have 13 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

As a teenager, Ruth loved horses and owned two: Snippy and Cheyenne. One time Ruth challenged Robert to a horse race and she left him in the dust. It wasn't too long after that they began dating. Ruth had a terrific green thumb. Her home was filled with house plants and surrounded by flowers. She always had a large garden, enjoyed canning and was especially known for her yummy pickles. She was always ready to play a game of Rummikub and she usually won. Taking care of her husband, home and family were always her first priority. Ruth was thrilled with her Savior: when she was in her twenties, she received the Holy Ghost by the evidence of speaking in tongues and was baptized in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ.

She is to be buried Monday, May 8, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural McIntosh, MN next to Rochelle Brua, her daughter who died at the age of 3.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2017 at McVille Lutheran Church in McVille, ND. The funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m.
