Samuel "Sam" R. Barta

Samuel R. Barta, 47, passed away Monday, December 4, 2023 from cancer.

He was born February 26, 1976, the son of Richard F. and Helen E. (Dick) Barta.  Sam is survived by his wife, Catherine; son, Richard; sister, Jo; mother, Helen; and numerous other family members.

Sam loved his family deeply.  On June 10, 1995, Sam married his high school sweetheart, Catherine G. Yost.  It was easy to see and feel the love they had for each other that never lessened, only grew.  One of his greatest and proudest days was the day his child was born.

Sam strived to honor and serve God, Country, and family.  During good times, hard times, and devastating times he kept true to his belief.

Sam joined the Navy after high school graduation.  A few years after he was in the Navy, he joined the ND National Guard.  He pushed, encouraged, helped, and cheered on his fellow soldiers and himself to reach for their highest potential.  He loved his unit and saw them as brothers and sisters.

Sam will be missed by his family and friends.  Please join us in celebration and remembrance of the life Sam lived.

The memorial service will be held Monday, December 11, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the Tracy Chapel at the Camp Grafton Training Center, 4417 Highway 20, Devils Lake, ND, 58301.
