Sandra Kay Flom, of Harvey, ND, formerly of Lakota, ND, was born as the youngest sibling and twin on January 10, 1948 in Devils Lake, ND to Ernest Broe and Irene (Lindvig) Broe. Sandy attended Lakota High School in Lakota, ND until 1965. On January 9, 1965, she married Antone Knetter, and they had four (4) children. During the marriage they lived in Hammond, IN, Eau Claire, WI, Lakota, ND, Angus, MN, and Thief River Falls, MN. Sandy worked on the farm, and became an active 4-H leader, and helped teach her children the importance of God, and the discipline and fun of sports, and entertainment like musicals, 4-H Arts-In, and musical instruments. Sandy loved music, and to dance, and she was an excellent clarinet player. Sandy divorced Antone Knetter in 1984.
Sandy obtained her GED in 1985, and started working as an Aide for special education classes in Warren, MN. Sandy started college at University of Minnesota Crookston in 1987, and later transferred to the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, and graduated Summa Cum Laude from UND in 1991, and became a Special Education Teacher in the Grand Forks public schools. Sandy had the opportunity to go on a European Vacation, and experience things like calling Scotland Yard in England just to get the car out of parking garage, and she also managed to get a police officer in Italy to stand in the middle of the street and stop traffic so she could drive the wrong way down a one way street.
Sandy married the love of her life, Dale Flom, on September 19, 1998, and they lived in Lakota, ND. As devout Christians, Sandy and Dale are now happily re-united by God’s Grace in the arms of Jesus. While they were married, they loved their cats, Baby and Callie, like they were their children. Sandy went all out for decorations for EVERY holiday with a blizzard of snow men all winter long and a beautiful village, and Dale dutifully put up and took down many decorations, and they both loved to dress up for Halloween in many goofy costumes. They both loved entertaining, and everyone was family including children, step-children, grandchildren, siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews, and all of their Christian brothers and sisters. Dale was excellent at telling jokes, and Sandy always laughed, but when asked if she understood the joke, she would say yes, but shake her head no, but she loved to laugh anyway even if she wasn’t able to remember the punch lines. Sandy loved everyone with all of her heart, and just wanted everyone to feel loved and to be happy.
Sandy always loved playing games including cards, and word games like Boggle, and words with friends. Sandy was found on many Facebook pages because she kept creating so many different ones. Sandy was happy to volunteer at her church, the nursing home and other events. Sandy was very fashionable when she was dressing up matching her twin sister Susie, or going out on the town with all matching items including hats, earrings, necklaces, rings, watches, gloves, coats, and shoes. The best thing we will all remember about Sandy was the twinkle in her eyes as you knew she wanted to share her love with you, and she knew how much those that were close to her cared about her and loved her.
