Shirley E. Freije, age 74, resident of Edmore, ND, died Monday, September 22, 2008 at her home in Edmore.

Shirley Evonne Dahlen was born March 13, 1934 near Webster, ND, the daughter of Arthur and Irene (Thorson) Dahlen. She was raised on her parents farm, attended the Cato Township School, and graduated from Devils Lake High School. Shirley married Alfred A. Freije on June 21, 1953 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Devils Lake. They made their home in Edmore, where Shirley raised their family. Throughout her life, she was very active with the Concordia Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, and planning community events and activities. Shirley and Alfred loved to travel. They spent winters in Arizona from 1998 until 2005. Alfred died October 31, 2006. Shirley continue living in Edmore and was known to be a great cook.

Shirley will be greatly missed by her daughter, Nancy (Dale) Schonauer of Edmore; 2 sons, Steve (Becky) Freije of Fargo, ND, and Corey Freije of Minneapolis, MN; 5 grandchildren, Anthony, Aaron, Adrienne, Jeremy, and Nicole; 3 sisters, Jackie (Abner) Sampson of Edmore, Darlene Johnson of Seattle, WA, and Joan Young of Henderson, NV; 1 brother, Arthur (Claudia) Dahlen of Kent, WA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred; and 3 sisters, Dorothy Vix, Laverne Davis, and Orinne Weaver.

Shirley's Funeral Service will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church, Edmore, ND, on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Edmore Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Shirley's grandchildren; Anthony Freije, Aaron Freije, Adrienne Freije, Jeremy Schonauer, and Nicole Schonauer. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota, ND, on Friday, September 26, 2008 beginning at 3:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
